Instagram Reels cover preview FAQ
What size is an Instagram Reels cover?
Vertical 9:16, ideally 1080×1920. Your profile grid crops it to a square, so keep the subject and text centered.
Why does my Reels cover get cropped on my profile grid?
The Reels feed shows the full 9:16 frame; your profile grid crops it square. The preview shows both so the key parts stay safe.
Where do the caption and icons cover the Reel?
Username and caption run along the bottom, icons up the right. The preview mocks that overlay so your cover text stays visible.
Can I upload a custom cover instead of a video frame?
Yes. Add one from your camera roll or pick a frame at publish. Preview it here first to be sure it reads at feed size.
Is my image uploaded to a server?
No. Everything renders locally in your browser, so your cover never leaves your device.
